The Chinese New Year is coming. As university students have left forhome, many universities are not as lively as it used to be. However, thereporter finds the campus of Jiangsu Normal University in Xuzhou is still fullof life. Following the melodious ancient rhythm, students from primary andmiddle schools in Xuzhou are imitating the growling tiger, the running fawn,the flying bird, etc. According to Meng Xuezhao, director of this university’spublicity department, the students are practicing Chinese Five-animalGymnastic, lately formulated by Jiangsu Normal University.
“In recently years, the physical condition of the young in China isdeclining because of inadequate exercise and it is necessary to create a kindof lively but simple exercise to arouse their enthusiam,” according to XuFangming, the Party secretary of the university
Authorized by Ministry of Education of China, Jiangsu NormalUniversity created the Chinese Five-animal Exercises based on famous ancientdoctor Hua Tuo’s Five-animal exercises and Xu Zhou’s profound history afterfour-year efforts since 2009.
