The Confucius Institute(CI) at Miami Dade College (MDC), inaugurated officially on Apr 29th 2010, wasco-founded by Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU) and Miami Dade College (MDC),with the agreement of cooperation signed in Nov, 2009.
It is administrated by itsadvisory board, set up in Oct. 2012. On Aug 7, 2015, the board meeting, withits new members elected, was held at MDC. There are 4 board members from MDC sideand 3 from JSNU. Dr.Lenore Rodicio, Provost, MDC (Chair of the Advisory Board),JulieAlexander, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, MDC, Ms. Tatiana Mackliff, Director ofInternational Education, and Mr. Peter Liu, the president of the Chinese Associationof Science, Education and Culture. The 3 members from JSNU are: Dr.ZhouRuguang, President of JSNU at the time (Vice Chair of the Advisory Board), Mr. SunWei, Director of International Affairs of JSNU at the time, and Associate Prof.Liu Xinglin, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at MDC.
Dr. Xuejun (Jim) Yu fromMDC acts as the director of the Confucius Institute at MDC, with associateprofessor Liu Xinglin from JNU as deputy director. Apart from the twodirectors, the CI staff includes 4 full-time Chinese language instructors, 3volunteer Chinese language instructors and 1 part-time office assistant.
The Confucius Institute atMDC locates on Wolfson Campus of MDC in Suite 1201, opposite to the schoollibrary, with 4 office rooms and a big lobby. It is an ideal place with goodfacilities and lots of books on Chinese language and culture available to allreaders.
The Confucius Institute atMDC offers credit Chinese language classes to MDC students on most of MDCcampuses and different kinds of non-credit Chinese language and culture classesas well. It often hosts international conferences, forums or seminars onvarious topics concerning Chinese language, culture, economy, education and,etc. It also hosts or co-host all sorts of Chinese culture related events allyear round. Its outstanding work is recognized by the Confucius InstituteHeadquarters, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China inHouston, Miami Dade College, as well as the local Chinese associations. It wasawarded “Confucius Institute of the Year” in 2015.
The Confucius Institute atMDC is always working hard at promoting the exchange and cooperation betweenthe two hosting universities—Jiangsu Normal University and Miami Dade College--and has achieved a great deal in its progress, hoping for the greater to comein the near future.
