From May 24 to 26, the final of the 15th National SFLEP Foreign Language Teaching Contest (Jiangsu Division) was successfully held at JSNU (Jiangsu Normal University). 53 teams from universities and vocational colleges in Jiangsu province participated in the contest. After two days of fierce competition, 7 first prizes, 13 second prizes, and 16 third prizes were finally awarded. Zhang Ning and Zhang Meng from the School of Foreign Studies at JSNU won the second prize in the English Major Group and the College English Comprehensive Group respectively.
Ding Xiaochang, President of Jiangsu Higher Education Society, Wang Haixiao, President of Jiangsu Higher Education Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association, Li Xiaoxiang, Executive Vice President, Hu Yonghui, Secretary General, Huang Xinyan, Director of Jiangsu Center of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, Zhang Qifei, Standing Committee Member of the CPC JSNU Committee and Vice President of JSNU, and representatives of the judges attended the award ceremony.
On behalf of JSNU, Zhang Qifei expressed sincere congratulations to the contestants who achieved excellent results in the contest, and extended heartfelt thanks to Jiangsu Higher Education Society, Jiangsu Higher Education Foreign Language Teaching Research Association, Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, and all contestants, judges, experts and staff. He said that the contest not only provides a platform for foreign language teachers to showcase their teaching style, but also makes contributions to improving the quality of foreign language education and teaching in colleges and universities, promoting the construction of foreign language teaching staff, and promoting teachers development. Jiangsu Normal University will take this opportunity to continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with sister universities, jointly explore new models and methods of foreign language education, and fully pursue the “quality revolution” of higher education.
Ding Xiaochang delivered a video speech, expressing warm congratulations on the contest and he put forward four requirements for the high-quality development of the competition.
Wang Haixiao delivered a speech on behalf of the Jiangsu Higher Education Foreign Language Teaching Research Association. Representatives of judges including Zhu Xinfu, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Soochow University, Sun Jianguang, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Huaiyin Institute of Technology, Ma Xiupeng, Vice Dean of the College of Foreign Studies of Nanjing Agricultural University, and Li Feng, Vice Dean of the College of Foreign Languages of Jinling Institute of Technology, commented on the performance of each group.
The National SFLEP Foreign Language Teaching Contest was first launched in 2010 and has been successfully held for 15 times. It has been selected in the catalog of national teaching competitions for teachers in general colleges and universities for five consecutive years and has been ranked first in foreign language competitions. Currently, it’s the largest, highest-level and most influential foreign language teaching competition in China, covering four levels of higher education: college English, English majors, postgraduate English and vocational colleges English. Obviously, it’s an important platform for foreign language teachers in universities.
