Vision and actions on international cooperation with European universities

Prof. Hua Guihong and JSNU delegation visited Coventry University, Loughborough University, Quacquarelli Symonds, Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos during September 21 to 27.

Broad consensus and abundant results have been achieved through this visit, enhancing further development on the aspects of international talents cultivation, scientific research and cooperation, and humanistic exchanges.

During delegations staying at Coventry University, vice rector and Professor David Philsbury greeted Prof. Hua on behalf on the whole university and conducted dialogues. Prof. Philsbury specifically introduced its dominant specialties like Art and Design, Automotive Engineering and Automotive Design while Prof. Hua specifically introduced JSNUs research on Belt and Road, Sino-Russian institute and Engineering & Chemistry Science.

Prof. Philsbury showed his interest on JSNU joint programs and establishing overseas branch of the Belt and Road Institute. Two sides were both willing to follow up and study on the feasibility of joint institute. Besides, they asked for more communication on teaching, academic researching and faculty exchanges and signed a Memorandum.

In this visit, the delegation looked around Students Service Center, campus facilities and other places.


On the campus of Loughborough University, two sides conducted dialogues on the universitys talents cultivation system named 3+1+1 and 1+1+1, which attracted many international students. After negotiating, cooperative relationship between two universities has been established, training talents in Chemistry and Finance in the future.

The delegation paid a specific visit to Chinese Embassy in the UK and had an informal conversation with Minister and Counselor Wang Yongli of Education Section. Prof. Hua briefly reported JSNUs discipline construction, international cooperation and the tasks of this visit. Hearing these, Minister Wang gave his compliment on JSNUs adaptation on national educational reform and development. He said that the UK is the European land destination of the Belt and Road Initiative. JSNU could seize this opportunity and positively participate in, making full use of the Belt and Road Institute. Minister Wang underlined that he would actively support the joint programs, the talent introducing program and exchange between JSNU and Coventry University.

While at the headquarter of Quacquarelli Symonds, Prof. Hua talked with Mr. Nunzio Quacquarelli by illustrating JSNUs faculty, research, institutes, projects and achievements. Then, Mr. Quacquarelli showed the factors of ranking such as peer review, employer reputation, citations, faculty/student ratio. The QS would cooperate with global partners to release universities rankings according to statistics on website and government reports every November. Two sides nodded to conduct comprehensive cooperation.

Rector and Professor Javier Ramos Lopez welcomed the delegation on behalf of Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. He paid attention to the cooperation with China in different forms, and showed his interest in overseas branch of the Belt and Road Institute, faculty exchanges and student’s exchanges. He wished to apply the joint establishment of Confucius Institute depending on JSNU international Chinese Teaching.
