A promising white LED road lighting source based on remote excitation for high power application

A high power white LED lighting source based on a remote excitation mode has been designed to replace high pressure sodium (HPS) lamp. Ce:YAG transparent ceramics were served as the photo-converter material, and separated from the blue chips, thus overcoming the problem of “chip heating effect” generated during photo-conversion; improving the operation temperature of blue chips; increasing the luminous efficiency (LE) of the white LED lighting source by 10%~30% and realizing 4π white lighting in the free space; The appearance of this LED lighting source is similar to HPS lamp, and the power of the lighting source could reached 100~250 W. This LED lighting source has the characteristics of high LE, low light decay and lighting uniformly. During the process using the white LED lighting source studied in this project to transform HPS lamps in city, one just changes HPS lamps and the corresponding power sources and no need to replace the lamp heads. Therefore, the one-time cost of energy-saving renovation of urban street lighting system would be greatly reduced. The white LED lighting source studied in the project is not only applied for road lighting, but also for mining lighting, flood lighting, high shed lighting, street lighting and landscape lighting.
