A Seminar on Fine Traditional Chinese Family Culture and the Construction of Family Culture in the New Era is Held in JSNU

From April 13 to 14, 2024, a seminar on fine traditional Chinese family culture and the construction of family culture in the new era, sponsored by the China Research Society of Family Culture, Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU), and the National Library of China Publishing House, was held in JSNU. Experts and scholars from more than 30 universities and research institutions across the country conducted in-depth discussions on the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese  family culture, promoting the construction of family culture in the new era, and developing high-quality family education and family virtues.

Deng Li, president of the China Research Society of Family Culture, a member of the 13th NPC Standing Committee, the former vice chairman and secretary of the Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation, attended the Seminar and delivered a speech. She pointed out that the time-honored family culture with lasting charms is an important spiritual force for the Chinese nation’s endless prosperity. Especially, family culture is the root and soul of fine Chinese culture.

Fang Zhong, Secretary of the CPC JSNU Committee, said that researching fine traditional Chinese family culture is a disciplinary feature and academic highlight of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context at JSNU. The research team, with Professor Chen Yanbin, head of the Institute of Chinese Family Culture, as the chief expert, has undertaken major and key projects of the National Social Science Fund for many times. Also, they have published many monographs and papers, which have effectively promoted the study of traditional family culture in the academic community.

Li Yujuan, deputy secretary and vice chairman of the Xuzhou CPPCC Party Group, introduced that Xuzhou is a famous historical city with simple and profound family virtues, and many historical allusions of family virtues have emerged. The seminar was held in Xuzhou, which reflected the full recognition of Xuzhou’s practical experience in building family culture in the new era and the academic research results of JSNU.

At the seminar, Gao Boyan, executive vice president and secretary-general of  the China Research Society of Family Culture and Fang Zhong, Secretary of the CPC JSNU Committee, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The Collection ofTraditional Chinese Family Precepts Documents (80 volumes) edited by Professor Chen Yanbin and published by the National Library of China Publishing House held a new book launching event.

Liao Shengxun, deputy editor of the National Library of China Publishing House, introduced the book. He said that Professor Chen Yanbin’s team worked closely with the National Library of China Publishing House for eight years to conduct a comprehensive and in-depth investigation of the existing family precepts documents and summarized what they found. After crunching, classifying, and researching the editions and eliminating duplications, an 80-volume The Collection of Traditional Chinese Family Precepts Documents was edited and published.

Experts and scholars attending the meeting conducted in-depth discussions. Xu Yong, a professor at the College of Education of Capital Normal University, believes that family precepts and family virtues form a beneficial complement to the explicit and implicit education of family members, reflecting the unique wisdom in the fine traditional Chinese culture. Yan Binggang, a professor at the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies, Shandong University, gave an in-depth explanation of the content, characteristics and contemporary value of The Yan’s Family Rule, believing that the inheritance of family virtues is a top-down education. Parents and the elders must be good examples. Professor Chen Yanbin, head of the Institute of Chinese Family Culture at JSNU, pointed out that traditional Chinese family culture is broad and profound. They have played an important role in the development of the Chinese nation and Chinese civilization. Zhang Xiaoying, secretary-general of the Traditional Chinese Learning Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Lu Yongsheng, deputy director of the Institute for the Development of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics at Southeast University, Zhang Ding, deputy director of the Home Letters Museum of Renmin University of China, Zhang Fangyu, deputy editor of Qilu  Journal, and Secretary of the CPC Chizhou University (CZU) Committee, Sun Xiaofeng, who is also the director of the Institute of Chinese Family Culture at CZU, also gave keynote speeches and explained the value and significance of fine traditional Chinese family culture from different perspectives.
