On October 31st, the establishment ceremony for the Cooperation Alliance of Jiangsu-Russian Universities was held in Nanjing. Zhou Jiuhua, the Level Ⅱ Bureau Rank Official of Education Department of Jiangsu Province, Song Xuefeng, President of CUMT (China University of Mining and Technology), Zhou Ruguang, President of JSNU (Jiangsu Normal University), Glushko Dmitrii Evgenyevich, President of Ogarev Mordovia State University, and a professor from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. More than 80 representatives from Russian universities such as Ogarev Mordovia State University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University etc., as well as 23 member universities of the Alliance in Jiangsu Province, attended the ceremony. It was presided over by Bian Zhengfu, Vice President of CUMT.
Zhou Jiuhua, on behalf of the Jiangsu Education Department, congratulated the establishment of the Alliance and expressed gratitude to related Russian universities and member universities in Jiangsu Province which have always been concerned about the opening up of Jiangsu education. He pointed out that in 2021, the construction of the Alliance was launched. With the joint efforts of CUMT, JSNU, and other member universities, Chinese and Russian universities have carried out a series of exchange and cooperation projects in talent cultivation, cooperative research, and people-to-people exchanges. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Ogarev Mordovia State University, Ufa State Aviation Technical University and some other Russian universities responded to the call to join the Alliance. He hoped that the Alliance would focus on strengthening high-quality development, continuously deepening its ability to serve economic and social development, and striving to become a model of people-to-people exchanges between China and Russia.
Song Xuefeng said in his speech that CUMT will continue to promote international education and deepen international exchanges and cooperation. Holding the rotating leadership of the Alliance, CUMT will consult with alliance members on collaborative development, seek win-win strategies, and build the Alliance into a high-level and international industry-university-research-use platform which integrates educational exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and achievement transformation between China and Russia. It will contribute to promoting the construction of a new pattern of global higher education and a community with a shared future for mankind.
Glushko Dmitrii Evgenyevich stated in his speech that the cooperation and exchanges between China and Russia in the field of education play a fundamental and leading role in promoting mutual understanding between the two peoples and deepening traditional friendship. Jiangsu has developed economy, excellent educational resources, advanced scientific research and innovative transformation, he hoped to work with Jiangsu universities in teacher exchange, student training, scientific research cooperation, subject development, Chinese language teaching, etc. within an Alliance framework.
Zhou Ruguang expressed in his speech that JSNU will uphold the tradition and characteristics of international education with Russian universities, conscientiously fulfill the responsibilities of the Alliance Secretariat, participate in and fully support the development of the Alliance. JSNU will contribute to promoting higher education exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia.
At the establishment ceremony, JSNU reported on the preparations for the Alliance. Russian universities and member universities in Jiangsu Province reviewed and approved the Alliance’s articles of association, and accepted the application for membership submitted by Nanjing University of Technology, China Pharmaceutical University, and Yancheng Normal University.
It is reported that in order to promote high-quality development of foreign cooperation and exchange in higher education, the Jiangsu Education Department launched the construction of a platform for cooperation between Chinese and foreign universitiess in 2020. In the first round of construction, six university cooperation alliances, such as Jiangsu-Britain, Jiangsu-Canada, Jiangsu-Hong Kong and Macao, were launched. In 2021, the construction of Jiangsu-Russia University Cooperation Alliance was began as the second batch.
