From September 22nd to 24th, the 13th General Meeting and Academic Seminar of the Jiangsu Zoological Society was held in JSNU. The event is hosted by the Jiangsu Zoological Society and undertook by JSNU. More than 270 people from 26 colleges and universities, research institutes, and laboratory animal quality testing institutions, including Jiangxi Agricultural University, Nanjing University, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Finless Porpoise Conservation Association, and Nantong Environmental Testing Center in Jiangsu Province.
Wei Fuwen, an Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), President of Jiangxi Agricultural University, Vice Chairman and secretary-general of the Zoological Society of China, attended the seminar and made a report entitled Progress in Genomics Research of Endangered Animal Populations. Feng Shaodong, Vice Chairman of Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, Du Zengji, a Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC JSNU Committee and Vice President of JSNU, Yang Guang, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Zoological Society, and Xu Xiaodong, Secretary of the CPC School of Life Sciences, Nanjing Normal University Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. People in charge of relevant functional departments of JSNU, young teachers from the School of Life Sciences, and representatives of graduate students attended the meeting as well.
Du Zengji expressed his warm welcom to experts, scholars, and attendees from all over the country in his speech, and extended thanks to the Society for its trust and support. He said that zoology is a highly challenging and promising discipline, and hoped to strengthen communication and cooperation among zoology researchers at the meeting. In this way, progress and development in the field of zoology would be promoted. Academician Wei Fuwen, President of Jiangxi Agricultural University, expressed gratitude to JSNU for the meticulous preparation and arrangement. He hoped that the seminar could strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation, in order to promote the development of zoological research in Jiangsu Province.
At the general meeting, representatives listened to and reviewed the work report of the 12th Council of the Jiangsu Zoological Society, reviewed and revised the constitution, elected new members of the Council and Supervisory Board, and held a new Council meeting.
46 experts gave brilliant academic reports and on-site exchanges on key issues in the forefront and key areas of development, such as genomics research on endangered animal populations, the development and evolution of green algae systems, and nature education and science popularization in the field of aquatic organisms.
