In September, JSNU (Jiangsu Normal University) welcomed 8,094 new students. On the morning of September 15, the opening ceremony of the 2023 freshmen of Jiangsu Normal University was held. University leaders attended the ceremony, faculty members, counselors, teacher representatives, alumni representatives, representatives of senior students, and all new undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students attended the ceremony. The ceremony was held in the stadiums of Quanshan Campus and Yunlong Campus respectively. Cai Guochun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC JSNU Committee, presided over the ceremony.
The ceremony was preceded by a flag-raising ceremony. Teachers and students all stood up, sang the national anthem and saluted the national flag.

In the warm applause, President Zhou Ruguang delivered a speech on the stage, expressing his sincere welcome and warm congratulations on the arrival of new students on behalf of all the faculty and staff, and expressing his heartfelt thanks and high respect to the teachers and parents who have worked hard to cultivate the new students. In his speech, Zhou Ruguang introduced the 71- year history of JSNU. He encouraged the students to maintain a global vision and serve the country, study hard and be thoughtful, develop a rigorous and realistic academic attitude, accumulate knowledge, develop comprehensively and achieve an excellent life. In addition, to become an outstanding talent, it is necessary to cultivate an independent personality, a healthy body, a tenacious will, a positive mentality and good communication skills.

At the ceremony, Professor Hao Jingbo from the School of Chinese Language and Literature spoke as the representative of the faculty. He hoped that students would learn professional knowledge, adhere to the quality of tolerance and kindness, be faithful to their choice and keep the momentum of pursuing improvement.
Hao Sheng, a 2021 postgraduate student from the School of Language Sciences and Arts, and Liu Siyuan, a 2022 doctoral student from the School of Life Sciences, delivered their speeches at the opening ceremony as representatives of senior students. They introduced their growth and wished that the new students would take root in JSNU, earnestly learn new knowledge and skills, solidly improve their comprehensive quality, actively assume social responsibilities, and strive to forge themselves to become pillars of the country and society.
Two representatives of the freshmen, Wu Yu, a freshman from the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and Cao Jiayi from the School of Education Sciences, spoke respectively. They called on all students to have lofty ideals and study hard.
Thousands of students from different regions form such a warm family at JSNU. Vice President Du Zengji presented gifts to the outstanding student representatives on behalf of the new students.
In order to encourage excellent students, JSNU specially set up the President Innovation Cultivation Fund this year to urge new students with outstanding results in the college entrance examination to devote themselves to mass entrepreneurship and innovation. At the opening ceremony, Vice President Zhang Yuqin presented the grant to the representatives of the new students who received the funding on behalf of JSNU.
In order to welcome the new students, JSNU launched an activity named Starry Sky of JSNU - Looking for the Most Special Student, and found the most inherited, most learned, most inspirational, most distant, most academic, and youngest students among all new students. Secretary Fang Zhong presented souvenirs to six special students.
At the ceremony, 24 School leaders solemnly handed over 24 flags symbolizing the spiritual inheritance of the college to the representatives of the new students.
