The undergraduates from the graduating class of Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU) have finished their studies and are about to embark on new journeys. On the afternoon of June 18th, 2023 commencement and degree awarding ceremony was held. The ceremony was divided into three parts.
Vice Secretary of the CPC JSNU Committee Cen Hong presided over the first part. With the solemn national anthem, the commencement ceremony began.
President Zhou Ruguang, also the Chairman of the JSNU Degree Assessment Committee, delivered a speech on behalf of all faculty. He warmly congratulated the graduating students on their successful completion of their studies and expressed sincere gratitude to their parents and teachers. He also extended a warm welcome to the representatives of the alumni in attendance. During his speech, President Zhou led all the students to review their struggling process in pursuit of academic learning and the achievements made by JSNU over the past four years. He emphasized that graduation from university marks the beginning of a new journey in life and encouraged the students to uphold the university motto of “Virtue, Knowledge, Ambition and Action” and to contribute to JSNU’s development through their unwavering spirit and excellent work performance.
Vice Chairman of the JSNU Degree Assessment Committee, Vice Secretary of the CPC JSNU Committee and Vice President, Liu Guangdeng, read out the Decision on the Conferring of Bachelor’s Degrees to Undergraduates. President Zhou Ruguang presented the degree certificates to the undergraduate representatives and turned the tassels.
Professor Liu Wei, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and the recipient of the National Excellent Youth Science Fund and the Outstanding Youth Fund of Jiangsu Province, delivered a speech on behalf of the teachers. He encouraged the students to set clear goals in pursuing their dreams, keep optimistic when facing setbacks, stay grounded and strive to achieve a brilliant life.
The Monitor of the “Liao Xudong” Class in the School of Chinese Language and Literature Lu Haiming, who won the National Scholarship, Provincial Model Student, Outstanding Student Cadre, Excellent Graduate, and the 2021 “JSNU Role Model” award, delivered a speech on behalf of the graduating students. She led her classmates in reflecting upon their four years of university life and expressed gratitude towards the alma mater, teachers, and classmates.
A parent representative from JSNU SPBPU Institute of Engineering and Sino-Russian Institute delivered a speech. He sent warm congratulation to the graduating students and sincerely thanked the leaders and teachers who have dedicated immense effort and hard work to the growth of the students. He also hoped the students to always remember their teachers’ guidance, remain grateful to their alma mater, and never give up striving.
Qian Jin, a standing member of the CPC JSNU Committee and Vice President of JSNU, announced the “Commendation for the Outstanding Graduates of the Class of 2023”.
Fang Zhong, the Secretary of the CPC JSNU Committee, presented the honorary certificates to the representatives and they delivered flowers to their parents as a token of gratitude.
The Nanjing Alumni Association of JSNU and Jiangsu Chunyu Education Group Co., Ltd. have established the project “Top Ten Students in teaching majors of Jiangsu Normal University”, aiming to promote the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing education and to inspire students to actively engage in education and inherit the virtue as an educator. When it came to the second part of the ceremony, vice presidents presented awards to the students.
Vice President Wang Xiaosan presented the honorary certificates to the first “Top Ten Students in teaching majors”, and Yan Jun, President of the Nanjing Alumni Association, awarded them with honorary medals.
Vice President Cai Guochun issued the “Outstanding Individuals in Grassroots Employment for the Class of 2023”.
Vice President Miao Zhengke presented the honorary title of the “Most Beautiful Dormitory Administrator” .
Vice President Du Zengji presented the honorary certificates of the “University Achievement Award”.
With the songs brought by the 25th postgraduate voluntary teaching corps, the ceremony entered into the third part.
Vice President Dong Xiaochen presented gifts to the representatives of the returning graduates from the classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022.
In the 70 years history, Jiangsu Normal University has cultivated over 200,000 graduates who have made outstanding contributions in various sectors. Zheng Lei, an alumna of the Chinese Department of the Class of 1982 and President of the Wuxi Alumni Association of JSNU, delivered a speech as the alumni representative.
To better connect and serve the alumni, the university has established alumni associations at various levels both domestically and internationally. Presidents from 40 alumni associations came on stage to present flags to the representatives of graduates to welcome their participation.
The ceremony concluded with the song Who Sits Beside You performed by the counselor choir. It is hoped that the students of the class of 2023 will carry the earnest expectations of the university and alumni to embark on a new journey with high spirits.
