MCM/ICM 2020 Winners and Results has been announced on April 28. Four students, who are divided into two teams and led by Chen Jiaqi and Wei Bin, coming from Jiangsu Normal University School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, won the title of Meritorious Winner. Ten students, who are divided into five teams and led by Dong Taojing, Jiang Yingchen, WangChunhui, Li Lei and Huang Jin, coming from Jiangsu Normal University School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, won the title of Honorable Mention.
Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM), organized by COMAP, the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications, is aninternational contest for college undergraduates. Its funding sources include Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, National Security Agency, Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, Mathematical Associationof America and many other institutes. It challenges teams of students to clarify, analyze, and propose solutions to open-ended problems among the fields like economy, management, environment, resource, ecology, medicine, and security. A team, consisting of no more than 3 students, would finish an English thesis including Mathematical Modeling Assumption by collecting materials and surveying through computers, mathematical software and the Internet. This year, the contest was held on February 14 and March 6. Over 20,000 teams attended the contest with 6% Meritorious Winner and 22% Honorable Mention.
The good result of our school depends onthe careful arrangement of Academic Affairs Office, our coach team and the hard work of our attendants. Besides, School of Physics and Electronic Engineering has been paying much attention to the cultivation of students’ innovation. All fresh students of different majors need to take the compulsory courses of Mathematical Modeling, making a solid foundation for them to take part in the contest.
