   Our school, established in 1958, was formerly known as Mathematical Special Course of Jiangsu Normal Junior College. Physics department was set up in 1960 and was officially renamed School of Physics and Electronic Engineering in 2006. It is one of the oldest and prominent schools in the university.

  We have 4 undergraduate majors including physics (teacher-training), electronic information engineering, electronic science and technology, optical information science and technology; 5 master enrollments of theoretical physics, optics, optical engineering, curriculum, teaching theory (physical) and engineering linguistics (jointly-built); 1 master point of physics education. There are about 900 students in our school. Moreover, "Advanced laser technology and emerging industries" is the collaborative innovation center of colleges and universities in Jiangsu. Laser engineering and technology belongs to one of the leading disciplines in Jiangsu while physics (teacher-training) is a provincial feature major. And there is one master point of optical engineering. “Jiangsu Normal University and Suzhou Anjie Science and Technology Co., LTD.” is a national practice education center. In addition, our electronic information is one key major in Jiangsu Province.

  The faculties are high-qualified and well-structured. Now our school boasts 77 teaching staff with 12 professors, 29 associate professors, 2 double hired academicians, 1 double hired "national outstanding youth fund" winner, 1 belonging to the "100 Talents Project" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 overseas high level innovation team of 4 persons, 3 in the "double innovation talent project" of Jiangsu, 1 distinguished professor of Jiangsu, 3 young core teachers of "Blue Project" of Jiangsu, 5 domestic and foreign adjunct professors, 19 postgraduate supervisors (including 4 doctoral tutors), 44 doctors, 10 post doctors (including 7 overseas ones).

  We have always been committed to the "quality project" construction and attached much importance to teaching work known for our rigorous education and standardized management. The talent training program is well-developed and the talents trained boast high quality. We pay attention to the cultivation of comprehensive ability with rigorous scholarship and practical and innovative ability. In the past three years, the students have won over 100 national or provincial awards in competitions such as the national college mathematical modeling competition and electronic design contest. Postgraduate enrollment rate reaches over 30% and the employment rate exceeds 98% for three consecutive years.
The school teaching and scientific research laboratory, about 10,000 m2 large, is equipped with dozens of large advanced facilities. Now there is 1 provincial experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 co-construction laboratory between central government and local university, 2 special fund projects supported by central finance, 3 municipal engineering technology research centers including biomedical imaging engineering, environmental monitoring of Internet of things engineering technology and laser technology, 3 municipal key laboratories of advanced optical function ceramics, high power infrared laser high technology in the research and spectrum testing technology, 3 university-level key research institutions including micro-nano photonic study key laboratory, high power laser technology research and development engineering center and Internet of things technology research and development center, and the hydrogen technology research and development engineering center. We have in addition 6 school institutes studying theoretical physics, modern physics education, intelligent information processing, medical optical information, photoelectron technology and condensed matter physics. Recently, our school has presided over 15 national natural science foundation projects, 15 provincial projects such as natural science foundation of Jiangsu, and has more than 1,000 papers included in SCI, EI and ISTP. Moreover, 14 teaching achievement prizes and provincial teaching prizes have been obtained.

  【Physics (teacher-training)】Feature major of Jiangsu Province. It aims to train excellent physics teachers for college and middle schools as well as teaching management personnel. After 4 years of schooling, it awards Bachelor of Science. The main courses are: advanced mathematics I, mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism and optics, atomic physics, mathematical physics method, electro-techniques, theoretical mechanics, electricity dynamics, thermodynamics and statistical physics and quantum mechanics. This major has a history of 50 years with high postgraduate enrollment rate and employment rate.

  【Electronic Information Engineering】 The goal is to cultivate senior specialized talents undertaking production, design and scientific research jobs in large-scale electronic information enterprises, telecom departments, banks and research institutes of higher learning. Students are awarded bachelor”s degree in engineering after four years of study. The main courses are: advanced mathematics I, university physics I, circuit analysis, signals and systems, analog circuit, digital circuit, computer program design (VC++), microcomputer principle, electronic design automation, digital signal processing, data communication and computer network, the principle and application of single-chip microcomputer, automatic control principle and communication principle. Teachers here are of first class. We have professional equipments and graduates enjoy broad range of options for employment and high starting salary.

  【Electronic Science and Technology】 It aims to cultivate electrical engineers engaged in the design and maintenance of electrical appliances in modern enterprises and senior talents who can be engaged in scientific research in research institutes and universities or work in higher education. After four years of schooling, students are awarded bachelor’s degree in engineering. The main courses include: circuit analysis, analog circuit, digital circuit, signal and system, microcomputer principle, vocational education psychology, vocational and technical education, electronic measurement, the principle and application of single-chip microcomputer and CPLD/FPGA system design, computer programming (VC++), communication principle, and high frequency electronic circuit. In recent years, our graduates are very popular among employment units, especially those modern enterprises in open coastal areas or along the river.

  【Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering】It mainly aims to train talents engaged in the processing of optical information and optoelectronic technology research and application catering to the needs of scientific research institutes, organizations, corporations, engineering technology and production management department, or doing teaching and scientific research work in universities, colleges and vocational schools. After four years of schooling, the graduates are awarded bachelor’s degree in engineering. The main courses are: the method of mathematical physics, optics, electromagnetic field theory, basic optical experiment, signal and system, electronic circuit design and technology, computer programming (VC++), physical optics, applied optics, optical design principle and technology, laser, optical fiber communication, photoelectric detection technology, and photoelectric technology comprehensive experiment. The major directions are mainly in the fields of optical information, photoelectron science theory and application technology.
