Our school has three undergraduate majors: mathematics and applied mathematics, information and computer science and statistics. Math, the first national quality course of our school, is one of the provincial priorities in the national “12th Five-Year Plan”, with mathematics and applied mathematics ranked as the national and provincial feature major. We are entitled the right to confer master degree in both first-class disciplines of math (first-class provincial key major in the national “12th Five-Year Plan”) and statistics (one of the first provincial leading disciplines). Besides, we also enroll postgraduate students in Curriculum and Teaching Methodology (math) and professional postgraduates in subject teaching (math). Applied mathematics discipline received the outstanding discipline title in the provincial “Blue Project” of Jiangsu, non-linear analysis and its application team was listed among the outstanding innovation teams in Jiangsu Province, and analysis curriculum group obtained outstanding university teaching team title. So far, there are about 800 undergraduate students and over 240 postgraduate students in our school.
We boast a team of high-quality teaching staff. There are now 22 professors, 25 associate professors, 45 doctors and 33 master supervisors, among which 6 are doctor’s tutors and 7 are distinguished professors. 60% of the full-time faculty members have a doctor’s degree. Of all the full-time teachers, 6 enjoy the government special allowance awarded by the State Council, 1 got Labor Day Medal and was honored as National Advanced Worker, 2 received the title of “National Model Teacher”, 2 are supported by the New Century Talent Supporting Project by Ministry of Education, and 35 others either got national and provincial rewards or are elected onto the national or provincial talent teams. There are 2 teaching laboratories of information and computer science and statistics, 1 provincial teaching demonstration point, 30 employment practice bases in enterprises such as finance and software development in addition to 36 education practice bases to facilitate the employment for students through more options and channels.
Our school is well known for rigorous teaching and scientific management. We have our unique way of talent cultivation which pays off well. Professors insist on giving basic courses and professional basic courses. Teachers devote themselves to teaching study and have won about 10 awards at or above provincial level in recent 5 years such as National Outstanding Achievement Award in Education Study, Outstanding Achievement Award in Education Study in Jiangsu Universities and Mathematics Achievement Award of Jiangsu Province. In recent years, a number of courses, textbooks are recognized as national, provincial or school level excellent courses and textbooks. We pay much attention to the promotion of students’ professional quality and cultivation of innovation ability. Student activities and groups such as teaching competition and Xiuyuan volunteer association have become the brands of the school. In the mathematical modeling and mathematics competitions in the past 5 years, our students have won 10 national first or second prizes and 22 provincial prizes. Postgraduate enrollment rate reaches approximately 20%. Among the undergraduate alumni are many successful talents such as special term professor of Chang Jiang Scholars by the Ministry of Education, Outstanding Young Investigator Award winner, national outstanding teacher, chief executive of multi-national securities company and provincial departmental level leader. And a great number of recent graduates begin to stand out on their respective positions.

It trains students to have solid mathematics theory foundation, grasp the basic theories and methods of mathematical statistics firmly, master the basic principles of statistics and financial economics principles, be able to skillfully use computer technology and the principles of statistics in the analysis of data, have the ability to find and solve the statistical problems in fields as society, economics and production, undertake application, development and management jobs such as risk management, statistical forecasting and decision-making, statistical investigation and statistical information management in finance, insurance and other enterprises and institutions, or become senior specialized talents in R＆D, education department doing research or teaching. Main courses are: mathematical analysis, higher algebra, operational research basics, multivariate statistical analysis, applied regression analysis, statistical forecasting and decision-making, financial mathematics (options on futures pricing analysis), actuarial, quality management, economic game theory etc,.
Professional selective training pattern of three series begins from the 5th semester, aiming to cultivate graduates and applied specialized personnel in financial statistics, applied statistics, probability and statistics and related subjects. The employment rate is above 98%.
【Information and Computation Science】 “12th Five-Year Plan” key discipline in Jiangsu province. It trains the students to possess good mathematical foundation and thinking ability, master the basic theories, methods and skills of information and computer science, have scientific research training, and solve practical problems in information technology and engineering calculation. Graduates are supposed to take up research, teaching, application development and management jobs in science and technology, education, information industry, economic and financial departments. Main courses include: mathematical analysis, higher algebra and analytic geometry, probability theory, differential equation, C++ language programming, data structure, discrete mathematics, numerical analysis, operating systems, differential equation numerical solution, software engineering, database, matrix calculation etc.
Professional selective training mode begins from the 5th semester to cultivate senior applied specialized talents, postgraduates and other applied specialized personnel in information technology and engineering calculation. The employment rate is above 97%.
