Recently, the list of “Top 20 New R&D Institutions in Xuzhou” in 2022 was released. Four institutes that our university has participated in building, including Xiyi Advanced Materials Research Institute of Industrial Technology, Xuzhou Lanoxene Institute for Advanced Materials, JSNU Semiconductor Materials and Equipment Research Institute and Jiangsu Institute of Mid-Infrared Laser Technology and Applications, were on the list.
In recent years, our university has given full play to the advantages of national platforms such as JSNU national science park, national technology transfer demonstration institutions and national science and technology business incubators. With the goal of enhancing local economic development, JSNU has been actively supporting teachers to participate in the construction of new research and development institutions.In this way, industry-university-research innovation carriers for technology transfer have been created to promote the deep integration of innovation chain, industry chain and talent chain. Accordingly, the research resources with unique advantages of JSNU match the layout of regional industrial development comprehensively. Up to now, there are 13 new R&D institutions on campus, covering new materials, new-generation information technology, integrated circuits and ICT, green low-carbon energy, biomedicine, security and emergency response etc. Among them, 10 have been put on municipal-level records, and Xiyi Advanced Materials Research Institute of Industrial Technology has been approved as the first provincial-level new R&D institution in north Jiangsu Province in 2022.
The continuous approval and upgrading of new R&D institutions reflects that JSNU provides better service for local socio-economic development. Our university will continue to support teacher teams in constructing new R&D institutions, assist in improving regional scientific and technological innovation system and support the innovative development of Xuzhou’s competitive industry clusters and emerging industry clusters. Therefore, a virtuous cycle of innovation ecosystem with “talents, capital investment, scientific research and development, desirable results, and industry nurturing scientific research” will gradually form, and contribute to regional socio-economic development.
New R&D institutions are market-oriented and mainly engaged in research and development and its related activities. They are independent legal entities with diversified investment subjects, international construction mode, market-oriented operation mechanism, modernized management system, the combination of innovation and entrepreneurship and incubation, and close integration of industry-university-research. As an important carrier to lead new research and development, promote hard science and technology entrepreneurship and enhance independent innovation capability, new R&D institutions gradually become the new force of innovation-driven development in Xuzhou. They play an increasingly important role in promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and creating an innovation hub, becoming a powerful and indispensable force to drive the economic development of Xuzhou.
