Taekwondo competitions for university students of the 20th Games of Jiangsu Province was held in JSNU from August 3rd to 7th. The competition was hosted by Jiangsu Education Department and Sport Bureau of Jiangsu Province, coordinated by Jiangsu Student Sports Association College Working Committee, and undertaken by our university. 558 leaders, coaches and athletes from 61 universities took part in the games. Taekwondo competitions were divided into three groups: Group A-A (11 high-level undergraduate sports teams), Group A-B (22 undergraduate sports teams) and Group B (28 vocational colleges sports teams). There were 5 sports for men and women respectively, with a total of 10 categories.
Wang Xiaosan, vice president of JSNU, Zhang Lili, director of Division of Sports Hygiene and Art Education of Jiangsu Education Department, and Wang Jiahong, deputy director of the University Group Organizing Committee for the 20th Games of Jiangsu Province, director of Jiangsu Student Sports Association College Working Committee, attended and addressed the joint conference of team leaders and coaches. To ensure fairness and impartiality of the competition, communication tools of referees were handed for safekeeping. Also, measures such as unscheduled room check at night, random selection for judgement and closed-off management were adopted. Almost 400 cut-throat matches finally came to an end in four days.
During the competition, heads of different departments cheered for athletes in person. The taekwondo team of JSNU achieved excellent results with only 6 players. Specifically, our team won the second in total team points and 2 golden medals, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals, as well as the honorary title of “Team with Sportsmanship”, thanks to superb skills and tenacity of the players. Particularly, Tang Wenxuan won the first place in Group A-A Women’s 55KG, Li Shuang won the first place in Group A-A Women’s 75kg, Wang Kun won the second place in Group A-A Men’s 80kg, Xin Xianhe won the second place in Group A-A Women’s 63kg and Yuan Lu won the third place in Group A-A Women’s 72kg. In addition, Zhu Puyu won the title of “Excellent Coach” and Xin Xianhe and Gao Kang won the title of “Athlete with Sportsmanship”.
