On September 1st-2nd, the fifth “Forum on China and LAC: Dialogues between Civilizations” was held both online and offline in Nanjing. The forum was hosted by Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Institute of Latin American Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies (ACCWS) and Blossom Press. And it was coordinated by Universidad Católica de Salta (UCASAL) and Universidad Veracruzana. JSNU and Jiangsu Provincial Radio and Television Administration were organizers.
Fang Wei, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Xie Feng, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yu Tao, Deputy Director of China International Communications Group (CICG), Antonia Hugh, Jamaican Ambassador to China and Anyin Choo, Guyanan Ambassador to China attended the opening ceremony and addressed to the forum respectively. Ramsamy, former Health Minister of Guyana delivered an online speech. Cai Wei, director-general of Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs, Zhou Ruguang, JSNU’s president and Yu Yunquan, president of ACCWS gave keynote speeches. Alejandro Grimson, adviser of the President of the Argentine Nation, and Juan de Dios Parra, Secretary General of the Latin American Commission on Human Rights delivered video speeches. More than 200 representatives attended the forum, including dignitaries, experts and scholars, representatives of the business community and reporters from 10 international organizations in China and Latin America as well as Latin American countries.
In-depth discussion was conducted on the forum centering on the theme of “Sharing Opportunities for Development and Building a Better Future: Global Development Initiative and China-LAC Community with a Shared Future”. The forum aims to explore how to further consolidate and deepen China-LAC cooperation and promote mutual learning between China and Latin American countries to construct China-LAC community with a shared future by exchanging ideas, sharing development experience and cultivating international talents.
The forum has been held for five consecutive years so far and the 3th and 5th were organized by JSNU. The forum has become one of the most influential platforms for China and Latin American regions to unfold public dialogue.
