Recently, the Symposium on Chemistry Discipline Development and Construction of Green Functional Materials Proof of Concept Center was held at Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU). The event invited 30 renowned scholars from prestigious domestic universities and research institutions including Nanjing University, Fudan University, and the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Centering on the theme of “Pooling Wisdom and Strength to Strengthen Disciplines, Empowering Innovation to Build Platforms -- Promoting In-depth Integration of High-quality Development of Chemistry Discipline and Construction of Proof of Concept Center”, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on strategies for discipline development and blueprints for platform construction. Dong Xiaochen, Member of the University Party Committee Standing Committee and Vice President, attended and presided over the symposium.
In the first phase, experts focused on four core topics for in-depth exchanges: Leveraging the advantages of ESI-ranked disciplines to strengthen distinctive research directions and comprehensively enhance the core competitiveness of the chemistry discipline. Intensifying the development of faculty teams and cultivation of research groups to promote cross-directional and interdisciplinary collaborative innovation. Aligning with major national projects and programsand regional economic development needs to optimize the discipline layout. Enhancing the capacity for scientific research innovation and improving the quality of talent cultivation.Through extensive discussions, the development path for the chemistry discipline was further clarified, laying a solid foundation for the discipline to upgrade its status and highlight its distinctive development advantages.
The second phase focused on the construction of the Green Functional Materials Proof of Concept Center. Drawing on theresearch strengths in functional materials, energy chemistry, and other fields, participants conducted in-depth exchanges on key issues such as the Center’s positioning, core functions, andoperational mechanisms, reaching a consensus on promoting the high-standard construction and high-quality operation of the Center.
Following the thematic discussions, the symposium featured an invited academic report session. Distinguished domestic experts were invited to deliver special reports, sharing cutting-edge research findings, experiences in discipline development, and practical cases of achievement transformation. These reports provided high-level guidance and constructive ideas for the development of the chemistry discipline and research platforms at JSNU.
