On April 14, a delegation led by Albert Panton León, Consul General of Cuba in Shanghai, and Dionisio Zaldivar Silva, Vice President of University of Havana (UH), paid a visit to Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU). Du Zengji, President of JSNU, met with the delegation.
President Du extended a warm welcome to the delegation and he pointed out that JSNU has always upheld the philosophy of open education. As a top-tier institution of higher learning in Cuba with far-reaching influence in Latin America, UH’s accession to the China (Jiangsu)-Latin American Universities Alliance carries great significance for the Alliance’s development. The visit stands as an important milestone in deepening cooperation between the two universities. He expressed hope that the two sides will take this exchange as an opportunity to jointly build a solid bridge for educational exchanges between China and Latin America, and contribute to advancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges as well as mutual understanding between China and Cuba.
In his address, Albert stated that Cuba highly values educational cooperation with China, and the partnership between the two universities is a vivid practice of educational exchanges. He hoped that the they will join hands to cultivate young talents with an international vision, promote the common development of education in China and Cuba, and further deepen the friendship between the two nations.
Dionisio introduced the distinctive characteristics of UH in his speech. He noted that the two universities boast broad prospects and enormous potential for cooperation, and he looked forward to carrying out practical cooperation in such fields as scientific research collaboration and faculty-student exchanges.
Following the symposium, the two sides formally signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between JSNU and UH and jointly inked the Letter of Confirmation on Admission to the China (Jiangsu)-Latin American Universities Alliance, marking the official admission of UH into the Alliance.
