The Ministry of Education recently released the second batch of “National Universities and Colleges Huang Danian Teacher’s Team”(Huang Danian, known for his patriotism, professional dedication, indifference to fame and wealth, and fulfilling duties faithfully). And the list sees our university’s team of linguistic teachers led by professor Yang Yiming.
The team of linguistic teachers in Jiangsu Normal University was established in 1994. Based on solid studies of traditional linguistics, the team takes the lead in conducting cross-disciplinary teaching and researches of linguistics with brain science, cognitive science and biology, and etc. And it has been an international, interdisciplinary and well-structured team of high level. At present, there are more than 50 teachers in this team with over 20 full-time teachers, including two talents with the national title, an academician of British Academy, a state-level renowned teacher, a famed social scientist of Jiangsu province, an outstanding professor in Jiangsu and another eight talents titled with different honours. In addition, this team is on the list of Qinglan Project scientific and technological innovation team and outstanding teaching team.
The team continues to implement the fundamental goal of education, moral education, and practice core socialist values as a model. It has been awarded “top 10 graduate supervisor teams” “pioneer workers” at provincial level, scientific and technological innovation team and outstanding teaching team in Jiangsu Qinglan Project and Contribution Award for Youth Voluntary Service in Jiangsu Province. Their guidance helps students in Jiangsu Normal University win the Special Prize in the National Collegiate Challenge Cup. Moreover, the team, as a pioneer, proposed a new theory on teaching reforms, “New Era, New Liberal Arts”. It promotes cultivation of liberal arts students equipped with interdisciplinary mind as well as the awareness and capacities of innovation and enterprise. And it has achieved the first and second prize in National Award for Teaching Achievement in Higher Education. Furthermore, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages is selected to the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors, and A Course in Linguistic basics is approved as a national first-class undergraduate course. Their pursuit of scientific research innovation and creation provides the disciplinary framework for China’s neurolinguistics and receives acknowledgement from scholars home and abroad, thereby making contributions to China’s voice in linguistic fields around the world. In actively serving the needs of the state and society, the team deeply engaged in the preparations for International Conference on Language hosted by the Chinese government and UNESCO, and gained praise from the Ministry of Education and State Language Commission. The BRI strategic project of language service as well as the advisory report of theoretical and practical studies on Poverty Alleviation by Promoting Mandarin approved by national leaders have been reported many times in People’s Daily, Guangming Daily and News Report.
