Biography:

Seongwoo Yoo is an associate professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was awarded his PhD from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Korea, focusing on fibre optics, before joining the University of Southampton as a post-doctoral researcher. His research interests encompass rare-earth doped fibres to micro-structured fibres, with applications in fibre lasers and sensors. Seongwoo is a Senior member of IEEE.

Abstract:

The advancement of optical fibre technologies has opened new frontiers in the development of high-performance fibre-based light sources. This talk presents efforts in engineering optical fibre properties to achieve tailored light–matter interactions for fibre laser applications. With modifying parameters such as refractive index profiles, core geometries, and internal structuring, this talk will cover fibre design strategies aimed at controlling dispersion characteristics and modal behaviour to enhance the performance of fibre laser systems.
