From February 19th to 21st, President Zhou Ruguang was invited to visit Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University and Moscow State Pedagogical University. He also visited Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in St.Petersburg to further deepen and expand exchanges and cooperation with Russia.
On February 19th, President Zhou and the delegation attended the 125th anniversary of Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University and received a warm welcome from Rector Andrei I. Rudskoi. Nearly a thousand people including Russian government officials, university representatives, experts, scholars, and famous alumni went the celebration as well. Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU) was the only Chinese university that was invited. At the Academic Committee Meeting, President Zhou Ruguang’s academic achievements and international influence was highly regarded by Andrei I. Rudskoi. He conferred Zhou the University’s 118th honorary doctoral degree, and presented him with the medal and certificate.
On the morning of February 20th, the two universities had in-depth talks on Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools. Rudskoi said that as a trustworthy and close partner, JSNU is also a model of cooperation. Zhou Ruguang introduced the excellent achievements of the cooperation in running schools, and pointed out their main tasks. He hoped to solve the current problems as soon as possible, further expand the scope and deepen the level of cooperation in running schools. In that way, JSNU would become a non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperative and model institution jointly with Russia.
On the afternoon of February 20th, the delegation visited Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in St.Petersburg. Zhou Ruguang introduced JSNU’s exchanges and cooperation with Russian universities, the situation of students studying in Russia, especially the achievements and development vision of institutional cooperation with Peter the Great Polytechnic University in St. Petersburg.Acting Consul General Zhang Xiaoqing met with the delegation and fully affirmed JSNU’s good measures to carry out pragmatic exchanges with Russian universities. He also had an in-depth exchange of views with President Zhou Ruguang on exchanges between universities in the consular district and joint training of engineering talents. He hoped that JSNU would seize the opportunity and deepen cooperation with high-level Russian universities.
On February 21st, the delegation visited Moscow State Pedagogical University and received a warm welcome from the First Vice-Rector Victor P. Dronov. Dronov introduced the education reform of the specialist degree. He said that as one of the first six pilot universities in Russia, the Russian secretariat unit of the Sino-Russia University Education Alliance attaches great importance to exchanges with JSNU. Zhou Ruguang said that the two universities have cooperated for more than 20 years and have achieved fruitful results in exchanges, doctoral students training, and cooperative education. He sincerely looks forward to continuing to deepen cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. The two sides had an discussion on the cooperative education project of Mathematics Education. In addition, they were willing to develop digital education and art exchange together.
Zhou Ruguang visited student representatives studying in St. Petersburg to learn about their study and life. On behalf of JSNU, he sent Chinese New Year greetings to more than 120 students studying in Russia, hoping that they would cherish the opportunity to study hard.
In this visit, the delegation not only consolidated traditional friendship, but also agreed to conduct new cooperation. The heads of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, JSNU SPBPU Institute of Engineering, Sino-Russian Institute, the International Office and other departments accompanied President Zhou for the visit.
