On January 23, Albert Panton León, the newly appointed Consul General of Cuba in Shanghai, accompanied by Lisbet Díaz Rodríguez, First Consul, led a delegation to visit Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU). The delegation was received by Zhu Jing, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Xuzhou Municipal People’s Government. President Du Zengji met with the delegation, accompanied by heads from JSNU’s Office of International Affairsand School of Foreign Studies.
In his address, President Duextended a warm welcome to the Consul General and his delegation, and thanked the Foreign Affairs Office of Xuzhou Municipal Government for its continued support for the university’s international programs. He briefly outlined the university’s development and achievements in international education. He noted that the university actively follows thenational opening-up strategy and has steadily deepened exchanges and cooperation with Latin American countries.Hosting several editions of the Forum on China-Latin America Civilizational Dialogue under the auspices ofInstitute for China-LAC People-to-people Exchange, JSNU has also initiated and chaired the China (Jiangsu)-Latin American Universities Alliance as the leading institution. Fruitful cooperation has been achieved in joint talent cultivation, faculty exchanges and academic research.President Du expressed his hope that, taking this visit as an opportunity, the Consul General would help further advance in-depth links between JSNU and Cuban universities, research institutions and enterprises in talent development, scientific research and people-to-people exchanges, so as to jointly open a new chapter in China-Cuba educational cooperation.
Albert Panton León thanked the university for its warm hospitality and spoke highly of its fruitful cooperation with Latin American higher education institutions. He reviewed the long history of bilateral cooperation in education and youth exchanges, and shared his own study experience and insights in China. He stressed that this valuable experience has deepened his understanding of both cultures and laid a solid people-to-people foundation for futurebilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed his readiness to contribute to closer bilateral cooperation in education, humanities and other fields.
During the visit, the delegation also toured the International College and the Institute for China-LAC People-to-people Exchange.
