Professor Zhou Mian got nomination for the 5th Guo Moruo Chinese History Award

The book of JSNU Professor Zhou Mian, Overseas Students and Social Development of Republic of China, picked up nomination for the 5th Guo Moruo Chinese History Award on January 17, 2019, which was a milestone to Jiangsu Normal University and an important breakthrough in the field of Chinese overseas study history.

Ruo Moruo Chinese History Award, held every four years, was set up in 1998, including three first-class disciplines (Chinese History, Anthropology and Archaeology) and Palaeography with experts from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and University of Science and Technology Beijing forming the judge panel.

It is the top award in the fields of Chinese History, Anthropology and Palaeography for the award-winning works are all typical books among related disciplines and the laureates are all scholars with noble character and high prestige.

Professor Zhou Mian and his team have been studying overseas students’ history for years and yielded a lot of achievements. This book was the outcome of MOE 2006 major project “Chinese Overseas Students and Social Development of Republic of China” and was evaluated as “excellent”. In 2016, the book was selected into National Library. It had been reviewed by Guangming Daily for many times and was collected by more than 100 university libraries from home and abroad like Columbia University and Harvard University.

In recent years, research like overseas students and modernization in JSNU has gained lots of achievements and aroused much attention, which has showed that JSNU had been at the frontier in related fields.
