  TheSchool of Fine Arts of Jiangsu Normal University, formerly the Art ProgramsDepartment founded in 1950s, has overcome great difficulties during itsdevelopment. Now, it is flourishing. The School of Fine Arts of JSNU has fiveBachelor’s programs including Art (Art Teaching), Calligraphy, VisualCommunication Design, Environmental Design and Painting. It also has twoMaster's degrees of Art and Design Studies, and two Professional Master'sdegrees of MFA (Master of Fine Arts) and MED (Master of Education). The schoolhas 51staffs, including 41 full-time teachers, 9 professors, 12 associateprofessors. The School has Departments of Painting, Design, Calligraphy and ArtEducation, and Teaching & Research Offices of Chinese Painting, OilPainting, Environmental Design and Visual Communication Design. In recentyears, the School has achieved great breakthrough in many provincial andnational research projects. The School published more than 20 monographs and over600 papers. It undertook and accomplish over 30 research projects; more than1000 works were awarded in different art exhibitions and contest. Over 100works were collected by departments of all levels. The School of Fine Artspossesses modern multi-media classrooms, Apple Computer Rooms, Computer Rooms, andInstitute of Han Portraitures,Institute of Art Education, Institute of Sculptures, Institute of Epigraphy,Institute of Visual Communication Design, Process-Modeling Labs, ChinesePainting Facsimile Rooms, Art Gallery, Art Collection Gallery and Art DesigningCentre.

  Inindividual development, the School of Fine Arts adheres to the concept of “developingall-round, approaching perfection”, centers around students’ development,focuses on improving students’ expertise and fundamental culture. Combiningwith the specialties of different programs and colorful campus cultureactivities, the School devotes itself to develop students’ practical abilitiesand creative abilities.

  TheSchool of Fine Arts would insist discipline construction as its lead,connotative development as its theme, cultivating its academic atmosphere, refiningdiscipline orientation. It devotes to making the School a place where talentsgather. The School will make more contributions to cultivate students to beoutstanding art talents and qualified art educators with professionalcompetence.

Art (Teacher training)

  The programintends to train students to be high-quality art educators with fundamental artknowledge, basic theories and skills as well as high-level art attainments and humanisticquality. Students are expected to adapt the positions of art teachers, artresearchers and other art educators in primary and secondary schools.

  Theschool has over 20 professors and associate professors.

  TheSchool requires students to have cross-medium creation abilities and focus onthe latest international dynamic conditions as well as multi-culturalintegrations and development; to master the fundamental art teaching theories.This program mainly emphasizes on cultivating three types of talent---top-notch and innovative type, comprehensive and appliedtype, art educating type, which respectively require students to equipthemselves with leading-edge consciousness and exploring spirit; professionalskills and research abilities; and international competitiveness. The Schoolhas carried out innovative ability fostering and training, internship andpractice, international exchanges and cooperative cultivating programs. It hasalso built cooperative relationships with University of Virginia, Hong KongInstitute of Education, Tsinghua University and East China Normal University,etc, to ensure the opportunities for students’ development.

Calligraphy

  The programintends to train students to be high-quality art educators (including Chinesepainting theories) and calligraphy talents with fundamental abilities ofcalligraphy, creations and applications, etc.

  Theprogram combines traditional skills and modern aesthetic ideas, conventionaleducation and competition, theoretical research and practice and innovation, totrain students to be researching, creative and educational experts.

  Undergraduatesnormally work as art research institutes staffs, culture and media institutesstaffs, primary and secondary school teachers, civil servants, publicinstitution staffs.

Visual Communication Design

  Thisprogram involves graphic design, advertisement design, new media design,package design and display design as a whole to broaden the category of graphicdesign. The program intends to train students to be high-level artisticdesigners with fundamental theories, knowledge, skills as well as modelingabilities, aesthetics abilities, creative abilities as well as art practicalabilities and market response abilities.

  Thereare over 20 professors and associate professors in the school.

  The programemphasizes the combination of knowledge, ability and quality. It focuses onboth modern design ideas and traditional cultural spirits. The program intendsto develop creative and individualized talents with the abilities to handlemodern visual media, devisable and creative capabilities, as well as marketresponse abilities.

Environmental Design

  The programintends to develop high-quality talents with modern artistic designing thinkingabilities, systematic techniques as well as practical skills.

  Thisprogram contains architectural design, interior design and landscape design,etc. Its objects involve natural and social aspects. It is a practical programwith bright prospects. The program centers on environmental design and combinestheoretical researches and innovative practice, training students to becompound investigative talents with fundamental knowledge and practicalabilities.
