School of Fine Arts originatedfrom the Art Department established in the 1950s. Since the “10th Five-Year” Plan, we have developed quickly and realized the leap from undergraduate education to graduate education offering master degrees. At present, this school has become an important base for art talents and teachers. We set five undergraduate programs: Fine Arts (Teacher-training), Calligraphy, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design and Painting and offer master degrees of Fine Arts and Design Science and professional master degree of Arts and Education (Arts). At present, there are 900 full-time undergraduate students and more than 150 graduate students in our school.
The number of our faculty and staff totals 56including 45 full-time teachers. There are 9 professors, 12 associate professors.
There are four departments in our school, namely Department of Painting, Department of Design, Department of Calligraphy and Department of Arts Education. Each department has its own Teaching and Researching Office. The structure of our teachers’ team is sound and reasonable. We own first-class teaching equipments and a batch of young and mid-aged academic talents. In recent years, we have made great breakthroughs in research projects and achievement, hosting a series of national and provincial projects.
Our teaching building covers an area of 15,000 square meters with overall facilities. There is a modernized multimedia classroom, a Computer room, an Institute of Han Stone Relief, an Arts Education Institute, one Sculpture Institute and many other institutes involving in different topics. The Painting Library, which covers 400 square meters and JSNU Art Museum, which covers 1,200 square meters have provided an excellent opportunity for teachers’ and students’ studying and creating.
In terms of talents cultivation, we adhere to the principle of “overall development and absolute perfection”. Promoting students’ growth is the key point of our working. We pay highlyattention to students’ professional quality, combining our major characteristics with campus cultural activities in order to strengthen students’ practical ability and innovation awareness. Depending on high comprehensive quality, our graduates have received so much praise from the employing units.
In the future, we will continue to insist on discipline construction, advance inherent development, create profound academic atmosphere, and intensify management.
