Recently, History of Jiangsu Overseas Chinese, which was compiled by the Federation of Jiangsu Returned Overseas Chinese and the Overseas Chinese Research Center of JSNU, was officially published by the Chinese Overseas Publishing House. The book was approved as a major project of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese in 2020, and became the first funded and key chronicle compiled and published by provincial departments of Jiangsu Province.
Under the guidance and support of higher federations, Professor Zhang Qiusheng from the Overseas Chinese Research Center of our university led a group of six members, including Shao Zhengda, Yan Ting, Ju Changmeng, Zhang Rongsu and Zhao Chang, to conduct the project. For nearly three years, the group members have researched and interviewed representatives from 13 prefectures, nearly 30 districts, counties and towns, many overseas Chinese enterprises and returned overseas Chinese families. They have also contacted Jiangsu returned overseas Chinese groups and their leaders from five continents to collect a large amount of information on the history of overseas Chinese, ultimately finishing the manuscript of nearly 400,000 words in length. The book records the experience of Jiangsu returned overseas Chinese on immigration, mettle, growth and integration into the mainstream society over the past 2500 years. It also demonstrates that Jiangsu people have been passing on traditional Chinese culture. The publication of it is of profound significance to make culture more cohesive, strengthen the devotion to the nation of overseas Chinese, and further enhance the soft power of Jiangsu Province.
In recent years, the CPC JSNU Committee has attached great importance to the theoretical research of overseas Chinese affairs. Specifically, our university has achieved remarkable results by actively integrating the campus resources, jointly building the practice base of overseas Chinese theoretical research in colleges and universities and focusing on the special fields of theoretical research and practical research of overseas Chinese affairs.
