From November 26th to December 4th, the fourth “Huaihai Cup” National University Moot Court Competition was held in our university. The Competition is an annual professional event jointly founded by the Moot Court Professional Committee of China Law Society and Association for Legal Education as well as Jiangsu Normal University. It is the only moot court competition supported by the committee.
A total of 104 students of 31 university teams from 25 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, including Beijing Normal University, Jilin University, Lanzhou University, China Ocean University, Nanjing Normal University, Northeast Forestry University, Southwest University and Sichuan Normal University, participated in the competition. This year, the contestant competed with others online and the judges gathered to review offline.
The fourth “Huaihai Cup” National University Moot Court Competition started on the morning of November 26th. Professor Xu Shenjian, the director of the Moot Court Professional Committee of China Law Society and Association for Legal Education and the dean of School of Juris Master in China University of Political Science and Law, instructors and participants from 31 universities, Lu Yugang and Shen Yutang from Law School of JSNU attended the opening ceremony. Xu Shenjian delivered a speech at the ceremony. He said that the moot court is an important platform for cultivating comprehensive quality of law students as it integrates theoretical knowledge of law, legal professional skills and legal ethics education. In addition, “Huaihai Cup” National University Moot Court Competition is of great significance in promoting the construction of moot court courses and comprehensive quality training of law students in colleges and universities. The preliminary and final rounds were held on November 26th and 27th, and the semi-final and final rounds were held on December 4th.
After intense competition, the winners list was released. The top eight teams in the agent group were Wenzhou University, Heilongjiang University, Northeast Forestry University, Dalian Ocean University, Nanjing Normal University, Anhui University of Finance and Economics, Xinjiang Normal University and Jiangsu Normal University. Northeast Forestry University, Nanjing Normal University, and Heilongjiang University as well as Xinjiang Normal University won first, second and third place respectively. The winner and runner-up of the judge group were Sichuan Normal University and Jiangsu Normal University, and the second runners-up was Hubei University for Nationalities and Lanzhou University. The best debaters were Jia Jinlong from Northeast Forestry University and Zhu Yichen from Nanjing Normal University, and the best judge award was given to Qiao Yifei from Sichuan Normal University. 37 contestants, including Tan Xiaofan from Beijing Normal University etc., won the Outstanding Debater Award. 22 contestants, including Liu Xiaoling from Jilin University etc., won the Outstanding Judge Award.
The closing ceremony was held after the final round on December 4th, attended by Fang Shaokun, Vice President of China Law Society and Association for Legal Education, Vice Chairman of the Law Teaching Instruction Committee, and PhD supervisor of Jilin University, Xu Shenjian, the director of the Moot Court Professional Committee of China Law Society and Association for Legal Education, Liu Guangdeng, Deputy Secretary of CPC JSNU Committee and Vice President of JSNU. In addition, the participants and instructors of 31 universities, students and teachers from JSNU Law School were present. Professor Fang Shaokun made a professional and wonderful comment on the performance of the finalists. Director Xu shenjian emphasized the significance and unique role of moot court in legal education, fully affirmed and highly valued the innovation and influence of “Huaihai Cup”. At the closing ceremony, the list of winners was released. Liu Guangdeng spoke at the closing ceremony, pointing out that the “Huaihai Cup” National University Moot Court Competition is of special significance to further promote the reform of the training mode for excellent law talents and improve the quality of legal professionals. Jiangsu Normal University will strive to make the event an important platform for the national law schools to exchange practical teaching experience and cultivate excellent law talents, and a broad stage for law students from all over the world to create active learning experiences, cooperate with others and show their excellent performance.
