On the morning of October 29, the 70th anniversary conference of Jiangsu Normal University (JSNU) was held in the gymnasium of Quanshan Campus.
Leaders of all levels of provincial, municipal and county governments, leaders of related institutions, representatives of primary and secondary schools in Jiangsu Province, representatives of alumni from home and abroad, people from all walks of life who care about and support the development of JSNU, former and current leaders of JSNU, representatives of students and teachers of JSNU, as well as the press representatives attended the conference. Fang Zhong, Secretary of CPC JSNU, presided over the conference.
The conference officially opened with the solemn national anthem. A documentary on the development of the JUNU, Northward Trailblazers, showed all the participants the 70-year development of the university. Congratulatory messages were sent from partner universities inside and outside the country to wish JSNU a better future.
President Zhou Ruguang delivered a speech at the conference to express his warmest welcome to the leaders and guests attending the conference. Also, he expressed the most sincere respect and heartfelt thanks to the teachers and students who had devoted themselves to the university, to the alumni and the people from all walks of life who had long cared for and supported the development of JSNU. He pointed out that from Wuxi to Xuzhou, the 70 years of history witnessed the hard, enterprising, ongoing, revolutionary development of JSNU. From the humble beginnings to striding forward, JSNU had made vigorous efforts to achieve prosperity and continuously promoted high-quality development. Thanks to the care of leaders, the support of government, the cooperation of partner universities, the devotion of all the former leaders and old comrades, the affection of the alumni and the support of all walks of life, JSNU had achieved success and made progress in all respects. JSNU would set off a new journey and open up a new future with struggle. In the new journey, all the JSNUers would work together to build a “hardcore university” with richer connotation, a “distinctive university” with more specific advantages, an “open university” with more outstanding fusion capabilities, and a “happy university” with more wonderful life.
Zheng Junnian, the president of Xuzhou Medical University, delivered a speech on behalf of partner universities. He extended warm congratulations and the best wishes to all the teachers and students of JSNU and the alumni at home and abroad. He said that over the past 70 years, JSNU had always been committed to education, kept pace with the time and forged ahead with reform and innovation. In this way, rich cultural deposits and distinctive characteristics were shaped. During their long-term cooperation, the two universities had forged a deep friendship and jointly promoted the development of higher education in northern Jiangsu. The development of education in the Huaihai Economic Zone and Jiangsu had also been pushed forward. He hoped that the two universities would further deepen the exchange and cooperation, as well as learn from each other in talents cultivating, scientific research, discipline construction and social services etc. Furthermore, the collaborative innovation, cooperation and development should be strengthened to make Xuzhou become a strong industrial city and a regional centre and contribute to the modernization of new Jiangsu.
Andrei Rudskoi, the president of Peter the Great Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University, delivered a speech via video to extend warm congratulations to JSNU on its 70th anniversary. He said that the friendly cooperation between the two universities had achieved many important fruits. JSNU SPBPU Institute of Engineering, which was Chinese-Russian cooperative education, had become the largest one in that field. Simultaneously, the friendly exchanges between the two universities were deepened. In the 70 years, JSNU had educated a large number of high-caliber talents for China and made great contributions. The graduates of JSNU were also acclaimed for their enormous knowledge and excellent research abilities. At last, he expressed his sincere wishes to JSNU.
Li Fengliang, an alumnus of the class of 1990 in Chinese Department, Secretary of CPC Southern University of Science and Technology Committee, delivered a speech as the representative of alumni. He expressed his love and gratitude to JSNU. Secretary Li hoped that JSNU would seize the opportunity of accelerating the construction of a high-quality education system to build a high-level university with international influence as soon as possible. Consequently, more top-notch innovative talents would be trained.
Yang Yiming, the head of the linguistics team of teachers at JSNU, spoke as a representative of teachers. He reviewed his personal experience and the instruction of his teachers. Especially, he shared his growth as a teacher and his experience of teaching. Prof. Yang pointed out that JSNU had made great progress in all its endeavors in 70 years, but there’s still a long way to go and he wished JSNU to be better in the next decade. At the same time, he called on all teachers to struggle hard and be innovative to contribute to the faster and better development of JSNU. So in the next decade, JUNU would move into the ranks of the “double first-class” universities. And JSNU would enter the ranks of renowned high-level universities in China by its 100th anniversary.
Four student representatives delivered a speech at the conference. They said that “Virtue, Knowledge, Ambition and Action” inspired students to use their knowledge and skills to serve the country, and “Integrity, Innovation, Principle and Practice” told students to gather their research spirit of science and innovation to serve the country. Simultaneously, students should be stable and ambitious to realize their dreams as well as be pure to utilize their knowledge and practice to explain the meaning of hardy youths.
Song Lewei, Secretary of Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee, spoke at the conference. He expressed his warm congratulations to JSNU on its 70th anniversary and heartfelt thanks to all walks of life for their concern and support for JUNU’s development. He pointed out that, over the past 70 years, JSNU had been building first-class disciplines with tenacity, nurturing talents, creating scholars with deep humanities, and serving the region with excellent achievements of science education. JSNU had formed a clear way of education and distinctive characteristics, and its comprehensive strength and influence at home and abroad had been increasingly enhanced, which led to the development of a local universities with connotations, transformation and characteristics. Since its establishment, JSNU had cultivated a large number of talents for China and Jiangsu province. Especially, it contributed to the construction and development of Xuzhou. To set off a new journey and make great contributions in a new era, it’s necessary for JSNU and other universities in Xuzhou to gather high-end resources and provide strategic support. He hoped that JSNU would further strengthen its internal construction, adhere to high-quality development, take the initiative to promote local economic and social development, and contribute to the high-quality development of Xuzhou. Xuzhou municipal government would continue to support the high-quality development of JSNU in various aspects, such as the construction of first-class disciplines, the allocation of educational resources and the cultivating of top talents, etc. To help JSNU become a high-level comprehensive teaching and research university as soon as possible, the government would propose more supportive policies.
