The establishment of Joint Engineering School of JSNU and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University was approved by Ministry of Education officially on April 18. It is a great breakthrough after JSNU held Financial Engineering, Rail Traffic Signal and Control undergraduate program with Petersburg State Transportation University and International Trade graduate program with Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University was founded in 1899 with great reputation around the world, many disciplines of this university are quite competitive. It is the top 1 “National Research University” among Russian engineering universities, the key university in Russian Federal Government’ s endeavor to build World Top 100 Universities before 2020. Its faculty is consisted of 25 academicians from Russian Academy of Sciences, 57 academicians from Academy of Engineering, Education of the Russian Federation. The Nobel laureates Semyonov, Kapitsa and Alferov all once worked there. The programs co-operated with JSNU are all the preponderant disciplines there.
Four undergraduate programs which are Mechanical Design and Manufacture and Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology and Industrial Design and two graduate programs which are Mechanical Engineering and Optical Engineering will be set up. The school is going to enroll about 1200 students (1120 undergraduate and 80 graduate) in 2016. Undergraduate enrollment belongs to the National College Enrollment Program. Students who graduate successfully can both achieve diplomas from JSNU and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. For graduate students, independent recruitment is adopted and students are going to spend one year in JSNU and one year in Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Students who graduate successfully can achieve diploma from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
By far, the Cooperation between the two universities are the largest in terms of scale and the highest in terms of level. The Joint Engineering School is the first no-separate-legal-entity Sino-Russian institution approved by Ministry of Education. It shows JSNU’ s advantage in the cooperation with Russian universities, and helps JSNU to build high-level university with the promotion of the first-class universities in the world.
