Abstract: Symmetries, local groups of transformations, were introduced by Sophus Lie in the 1880s inorder to study solutions of ordinary differential equations. It is evidentialthat symmetries are essential in solving differential equations. For instance, almost all solvable differential equations have symmetries behind the mystery. In this talk, we will give a simple introduction to symmetry methods fordifferential equations.
