Launch Ceremony of the Jiangsu-UK 20+20World-class University Consortium & InternationalUniversity-Industry-Research Cooperation Forum was held at Jiangsu Universitybetween April 8 and 9. This ceremony was sponsored by Jiangsu ProvincialDepartment of Education and British Council and attracted one hundredrepresentatives from 23 colleges at Jiangsu province and 13 British colleges. TheJiangsu-UK 20+20 World-class University Consortium was founded at the ceremonyofficially. Professor Zhou Ruguang, president of Jiangsu Normal Universityattended the ceremony.
On the afternoon of April 8, two sides helda closed-door meeting and issued the consortium’s Constitution, Declaration of Jiangsuand determined future development. On the morning of April 9, the launchceremony was officially held. Wang Jiang, vice-governor of Jiangsu Province, JohnEdwards, British Consul-General Shanghai, Mathew Knowles, Consul (Cultural and Education),British Consulate-General in Shanghai, Gareth Taylor, Consul (Science &Innovation), British Consulate-General in Shanghai, Fang Jun, vice-director ofDepartment of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office of Hong Kong, Macaoand Taiwan Affairs), MOE, Zhang Songping, vice-director of Foreign AffairsOffice of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Wang Chengbin, vice-directorof Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, leaders of Zhenjiang City andprofessors form related universities of Jiangsu and British universitiesattended the ceremony.
On the afternoon of April 9, Sino-BritishPresident Forum was held. President Zhou Ruguang made a report, titled “promotinginternationalization depending on world-class university consortium”, attractingmuch attention. Representatives conducted discussion over advanced manufacture,environment project, medical care and other themes. The Declaration of Jiangsuwas officially launched then.
Jiangsu-UK 20+20 World-class UniversityConsortium would be a great platform for Sino-British exchange and had asignificant meaning for world-class university construction, marking animportant step of Sino-British cooperation.
